I am a sincere believer of the philosophy - that knowledge alone can liberate and elevate mankind. Knowledge is the ultimate power that helps us to shake the shackles of ignorance and be free. As India makes strides of progress in this globally competitive environment, it is the quality of education that we will provide to the young generation of today that will give us the edge to keep ahead in all spheres.

I also strongly believe that the focus of global development and research in the coming years will be the life sciences. Innovative ways of applying basic, engineering, management and computer sciences to this purpose should therefore be the thrust of higher education today as it will directly influence the preparedness of today's India for a better tomorrow.

Many years ago an artist and a philosopher named Nicholas Roerich made the Himalayas his home. His creations were a direct result of the inspiration that these mountains provided him. Almost a century ago he wrote in an article- "...only in Himalayas, exist the unique, unprecedented, calm conditions for achieving results." In my capacity as the first Chancellor of the Shoolini University, I express my gratitude to Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister, his Cabinet, and the people of Himachal for giving us the opportunity to set up this life sciences and management sciences' university in the picturesque and inspirational settings of this beautiful state.

With the launching of this University, we aspire to translate our vision of providing world class education in biotechnology and management sciences and facilitating research and innovation in these areas.

I invite you to be a stakeholder in this dream- as a student, a faculty member or just as a citizen of a progressive and forward thinking society- and turn it into reality.
